TED Talk _____ (Theology, Education, Discipleship)

Code Red

Some of us may remember the phrase “Code Red” from the movie, A Few Good Men. Others may call to mind a highly caffeinated soft drink. Still others may link it to a hospital emergency code. And of course, in this part of the state of Illinois, for some it might signify the baseball Cardinals (although that is a danger in this baseball-divided congregation!).

This Sunday in the church year is Pentecost Sunday, though, and so for us “Code Red” might mean the day that the Holy Spirit visited our spiritual ancestors—the “birthday of the Church.”

So, wear your red this Sunday!!

A Few Notes from the Session Meeting

Some highlights from the May Session meeting, in no particular order:

  • Four new members (confirmands) and two

baptisms!!

  • Maintenance: the Annex carpet has been

cleaned; the sidewalk in the courtyard has been

repaired; the need to repair the glass in the

elevator enclosure in order to keep the water out;

the potential need to purchase a new furnace;

  • Finance: discussion of financial reports and

their formats with new Treasurer Kelly Cantrell

and Ruth Saegesser, Finance Chair; discussion

of the place of “pay in, pay out” accounts;

first payment received on new farmland;

  • Christian Nurture: discussion of format of

“Faith, Food, and Fellowship” on Wednesdays

later in the summer;

  • Missions: discussion of the need to find a

successor project to the Children’s Christmas

Fund, and the finances of the CCF;

  • Worship: summer worship plans;
  • Parish Visitor: a very busy month, with a

thorough list of visits and activities provided;

  • Outreach: new shirts, new directory, new road

signs all being planned.

My apologies in advance for any important matters left off the above list. I will be out of town for continuing education on “church leadership and risk” during the next couple of weeks.

See you in worship and in service,

Pastor Mike
