A Flu Shot Clinic is on Sunday, October 13 in the Fellowship Hall after 10:00 am service.  There are 2 types of shots for people 18 and over.  The low dose is $40 without Medicare or insurance; the high dose is $65 with no insurance. Medicare covers the cost, however, if you have private insurance, call Melissa at 423-6988 extension 1316 to see if your insurance will cover the high dose injection. We will have vaccine for children.

End of Life Planning Series is being offered at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The last class is:Tuesday, October 15: Communicating your Wishes; Pastor Mike Wakeland and Panel

Presbyterian Women are having a Bazaar and Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 19. The Bake Sale and Bazaar is from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. We are serving home-made cinnamon rolls, coffee, and milk during the Bake Sale and Bazaar. A Soup Supper will be served from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. It includes chili, beef vegetable, and potato soups. Condiments, crackers, corn bread, desserts, and drinks will be served with the meal. We are asking for monetary donations for the purchase of food and supplies. Donations can be given to office staff or placed in offering plates earmarked for Harvest Festival. Tickets are by donation!! Seating for the Soup Supper will be any time between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Come, buy baked or bazaar items, and enjoy good food during the Soup Supper.

There will be no Women’s Breakfast in October, due to our Soup Supper and Bazaar that day.

Adult Sunday School class begins their next study on October 20. The class will study "Christianity and World Religions" by Adam Hamilton and will be led by Rev. Dave Taylor. This course deals with the questions we have of Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism and will then compare their beliefs with those of Christianity. If you are interested in joining, please sign up so enough books can be ordered.

Annual Fall Family Gathering at the Farrell Farm is Sunday, October 20 from 3:30-6:30 pm. This year there is a new hayride wagon with seats that the Farrells have reserved for our use. The wagon ride will depart at 4:00 pm. Food and drinks will be provided, we just ask that you bring a lawn chair and a roasting fork if you have one. Directions to the farm will be available closer to the date. Any questions, please see Molly.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month.

Book Club meets Monday, October 21 at 7:00 pm to discuss When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin.

8th Annual Mt. Zion Community Prayer Breakfast is Wednesday, October 23, from 7:00-8:00 am (doors open at 6:30 am) at the Mt. Zion Convention Center, 1400 Village Parkway. $10 admission includes breakfast buffet; advance tickets required. Our church has reserved two tables, so call the church office to get tickets. This is a great way for all members and denominations of our community to join in a time of fellowship and prayer.

Trunk or Treat is Thursday, October 31 from 5:30-7:00 pm in the Annex. Candy donations for this night are being accepted.  It is a great way to reach out to our community and for children to trick or treat on Halloween night in a safe environment. We typically have about 300 kids come through! Bring your treats to the Annex where tables will be set up with some decorations. Please feel free to add your own. You may start arriving at 5:00 pm. It’s tons of fun. See you there!

Dear MZPC Family,

A heartfelt Thank You for all the Prayers, Well Wishes, and especially supportive Faith, you have conveyed; as I continue this battle against cancer.

I will have another multi-day series of chemo the 1st week of October. Then ongoing blood tests and doctor visits, by mid-October, leading to CT and PT scans and resulting progress.

In Christian Faith; Thank You,

Keith Flesner and Carolyn

A few snippets of news concerning what’s going on at MZPC (I’ll be missing news of some organizations and groups, so please don’t take this as a comprehensive list!):

  • We're being blessed with some new members on Sunday--thanks to God for their gifts and decision to join our family of faith!
  • The noodlemakers are at it again!
  • We’ve had a rush of hospital admissions, with 5 of our members in at one point.
  • LOGOS numbers are up, particularly in the 5th to 8th grade range.
  • After a time when finances were pretty tight (we had to transfer some funds from our Foundation to cover bills), giving seems to have picked up.
  • Our “End of Life Planning” course has met a real need, with over 30 people present at each session so far.
  • Communion preparation has been moved to the workroom.
  • Our newly refurbished Parlor and Meeting Room are ready!

We have our challenges, but the Spirit is at work at Mount Zion Presbyterian Church—through you. Thank you for your faithfulness and devotion.

************

Speaking of “thanks,” my gratitude to all those who assisted with the installation service, particularly the choir. Your efforts were much appreciated!

See you in worship and in service,

Pastor Mike
