October is Pastor Appreciation Month.

A Called Congregational Meeting is Sunday, October 11 at 11:00 am.

Book Club will meet on Monday, October 19 at 7:00 pm at Shirley Beckhart’s home.  We will discuss When The Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica.

Coffee Fellowship has resumed for the month of October with drinks only served in the Prayer Garden following the 10:00 am Worship Service.  Social distancing is encouraged.

LOGOS, the Limited Edition, has returned!

We are having LOGOS at Spitler Park on Sunday afternoons from 1:00-3:00 pm. Kindergarten-7th grade will be from 1:00-2:00 pm, and 8th-12th grade will be from 1:30-3:00 pm. While things may look different, the relationships built with one another during this time is still the same! Let's keep finding those God moments together! Reach out to Molly with any questions.

We will not be having a Flu Shot Clinic this year at our Church.  Please go to your doctor’s office, Kroger, Walmart, or Walgreens in late September or early October and get your flu shot.  It is especially important this year as we are fighting both Covid 19 and the annual flu season which is approaching.

We have returned to our normal routine with no 8:00 am ushers and no temperature monitoring.  Be vigilant of symptoms, we urge you to stay home if you have a temperature or are feeling sick.

The next Herald will be published on October 21.

  • Newsletter – 12:00 noon on Monday
  • Bulletin – 12:00 noon on Tuesday
  • Committee Minutes and Session Reports –  12:00 noon on 3rd Tuesday of the month

Mike’s Musings

From Philippians 4:  “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice… Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus… Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Well, thanks for that, St. Paul.  “Don’t worry about anything.”  Does he seem to be saying that it’s all just a matter of attitude?  I mean, has St. Paul seen what we have to deal with these days?

Paul writes that the “God of peace” will be with us.  In the Gospel of John, Jesus says that he will leave his peace with us, but not peace as the world understands it.  What is this peace that is offered to us?  Is it just a matter of how we look at things?  Join us in person or virtually on this coming Sunday, October 11, as we together try to name the peace that is given to us as people of faith.

************

Presbyterians tend to believe that, more often than not, we as a group can do a better job of discerning where the Holy Spirit is leading us than we can as individuals (which is why we have Sessions and Presbyteries rather than Bishops or pastors with unlimited authority).  That is why we, as a group, choose our servant leaders.

This Sunday, after our 10:00 am worship service, we’ll be acting on the recommendation to elect Joni Sayers, who has previously served as a Deacon, to service as a Deacon again.  Truth to be told, she has already been doing that job.  The COVID-19 situation closed down our worship before we could act on her willingness to serve; we now feel confident about having a Congregational Meeting.  This one quite likely will be very short.

******

Thanks to Greg Wenndt for getting us back to our Fellowship Hour, now after the 10:00 am service in the Prayer Garden.

See you in worship and in service,

     Pastor Mike
