Save the Dates for our Western Vacation Bible School this summer!  We will meet the first Wednesday of the months July – August; July 7, and August 4 from 5:30-6:30 pm.  We will meet in the Annex and have time to sing together, have a Bible story, play a game, and close it up with another song and prayer! Kiddos of all ages are welcome, and RSVP is requested but not required, just so we can plan best. Let this be a fun time for us to get back together, which we will do safely with face masks!  Molly is also working on planning a time for us to go out and ride horses, details on that will come later. See Molly with any questions, hope to see you all on the range this summer!

Congratulations to Sabrina and Ethan Schwartz on the birth of their baby boy, Eli James Schwartz on May 24.  New grandparents are Anita and Richard Schwartz.

Mike’s Musings

In days gone by many Christians would have been quite interested in what we would call “foreign missions”.  These days we are blessed with the opportunity to take part in the project “Hearts and Hands for Honduras”.  In the fall we hope to hear from Mike, a man who played a key role in developing this mission.  I’m drawn to this project because it is more of a partnership, with less of a “colonial” approach.  Yet part of the truth is that North American Christians bring to the relationship is the ability to help financially.  Let me share with you some information from Donna Rominger about what that money will help accomplish.

The team will be making school kits for the students that are not being sponsored by a program called Becas con Bendiciones (“Scholarships with Blessings”).  The kits (200 of them) will have pencils, pens, erasers, calculators, notebooks, folders, colored pencils.  Some of these items have been donated and some we will purchase in Honduras.  Notebooks and paper get heavy.

They will be making health kits for families that do not have any major health needs (those with health needs will be seen in the clinic).  The kits will include vitamins, pain meds like Advil or aspirin, toothbrushes and toothpaste, rice and beans.  A dentist already donated the toothbrushes, but they will be purchasing toothpaste, rice and beans in Honduras (financial donations needed for this!).

Teachers want educational materials.  Donna got some math “manipulatives” donated and purchased some materials for science.  Other materials will be purchased in Honduras.

The feeding center reopened just this past month.  It feeds anywhere from 60-120 children a day.  The women of the church do the cooking.  Funds are always appreciated for the purchase of food.

The team will be going into homes of people who have been struggling with anxiety, depression, hopelessness because of the COVID year, the two back-to-back hurricanes, and because members of their family are fleeing to US and they don't know their circumstances.  Anyone from church wants to take on a family and pray for them, Donna will match an Illinois family with a Honduran family.

There are many opportunities to be of witness with our finances.  Should you wish to donate, please get your gift to the Romingers as soon as possible.

See you in worship and in service—

    Pastor Mike
