Bits and Pieces

If you weren’t with us last Sunday, you definitely missed a “God sighting” with 6-year-old Emery Novota’s story of donating her hair for kids with cancer. What a wonderful display of compassion and an open heart that was - “…and a little child shall lead them (Isaiah 6:8).”

***

Our “substitute” for Vacation Bible School, the Faith, Food, and Fellowship Wednesday night events, averaged 50% more in attendance than our last VBS. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped it be a success, and congratulations to Molly and the Christian Nurture Committee for recognizing that it was time for a change with summer programming.

***

Thanks so much to all who helped on Sunday, August 4, when the 10:00 am worship service took place around dinner tables in the Annex. We celebrated the Lord’s Supper together, and then enjoyed a great brunch with many scrumptious desserts. Did this seem like something new? I understand why, but it’s actually a descendant of the “Agape Meals” our people celebrated in the first and second century. In the early days it was a full meal with the whole assembled community, often occurring along with the Lord’s Supper but separate from it. These days many churches are experimenting with “Dinner Worship”, similar in ways to the Agape meal.

***

Does it seem to anyone else that the summer has just flown by? I know our September resuming of programming is just around the corner because Roma, Rich, and I have had our annual worship planning meeting. The Choir Party is just around the corner (Wednesday the 21st); our Adult Education classes are just around the corner; and we’re bugging Molly for the dates when the LOGOS kids and youth will be offering their gifts in worship. Never a dull moment at MZPC!

See you in worship and in service,

Pastor Mike
