Every year for Vacation Bible School we choose a Mission Project for the week, usually a local mission. This year we have chosen to get donations of socks and underwear, all sizes, for the Dove Children’s Clothing Room. Donations are being accepted this week, and we will bless them at the 10:00 am worship service this Sunday, August 5.

You are invited to George Bray’s 90th Birthday Celebration on Sunday, August 5 after 10:00 am worship in the Annex. No gifts, please.

Reminder Family Fun Day:

Thursday, August 9 meet at Scovill Zoo at 9:30 am. This is a free entry day, so only cost would be for the train, $2.25, or carousel, $1.75. Bring a picnic lunch to eat there.

School Supplies are on sale now and used for helping those in the Children’s Christmas Fund. Donations are needed, especially the 8 or 10 count Crayola Classic Markers, 12 count Crayola Colored Pencils, and wide-ruled notebook filler paper. If you have any questions, please call Mary McGrath at 217-855-8635.

Milligan Academy faculty reports back August 10 with students arriving August 15. Supplies needed will be about the same as last year: Lined paper, Pencils, Pens, NO backpacks (please), Boxes of tissue, Lunch items: Ramen Noodles, Mac n Cheese, Other non-perishable microwave foods, Granola breakfast bars, Applesauce and other fruit (individual containers), Ranch dressing, Hot sauce, Microwave-proof containers for individual servings, Napkins, Clorox wipes, Black collared (Polo style) knit shirt (S, M, L, XL), and Belts-all sizes.

Also, could we get commitments from some church members, community, and friends who would be willing to give an hour or two a week for student assistance. It could be as simple as talking to a student, reading an assignment/book to them, helping with a lesson, etc.

Women’s Breakfast meets Saturday, August 18 at

The Downtown Café at 9:00 am.

Book Club meets on Monday, August 20 at 7:00 pm to discuss The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.

Our Church in the Park will be Sunday, August 26 at 10:00 am in the Horseshoe Pavilion in Spitler

The congregation is asked to bring a covered dish to share, their own table service, and a lawn chair. The Outreach Committee will provide fried chicken, several other meat dishes, and the drinks.

Our LOGOS Kick-off Night will be September 5 at 6:00 pm.  Bring the whole family to play a game or two, have some snacks, hear more about LOGOS, and register your child. Then, our first official night will be September 19. Look for additional information to come soon and watch our website for details!

TED Talk _ (Theology, Education, Discipleship)

So, you’re a pretty sophisticated Christian. You know Lent from Advent and you know that Joan of Arc was NOT Noah’s wife. But certain questions have always haunted you:

  • What is that funny looking cross with the fish and the flames?
  • Who is this John Calvin guy that Pastor Mike mentions from time to time?
  • And most importantly: Why do they make “Presbyterian” so hard to spell?

Well, fear not, fellow Christian! All these answers and more are coming soon to a church near you. Starting this Sunday, August 5, at 9:00 am in our wonderfully redecorated classroom (room #204), all these and many more essential life questions will be answered. Join others seeking answers for the first of three installments of “Presbyterian 101”.

See you in worship and in service—

Pastor Mike

In the midst of reviewing membership rolls, we’ve learned that we don’t have current contact information for many of our church friends. If you have contact info for any of the following, could you please forward it to the church office: Stephanie Alcorn, Lindsay Behnke, Kristen Covey, Melissa Cunningham, Heather Hale, Jeff Hanover, Zach King, Chelsey King, Ethan Lange, Joe Novota, Braden Saltus, Clay Sayers, Matthew Sayers, Matt and Michele Trueblood.
