TED Talk

(Theology, Enlightenment, Discipleship)

     There must be something more.

You’ve achieved everything you ever wanted…and it isn’t what you thought it would be.

Or:  life is seeming chaotic, and you are wondering, “The things I trusted to get me by in life—will they be enough?”

Or:  severe health challenges come your way, or your relationships aren’t ending up quite the way you thought they would, and you’re wondering what your faith has to say in light of what you’re up against.

Or:  you just have this feeling that there must be something more…

A few of us are going to get together at 1:30 (not a great time for working folk—this may not be the permanent time) this coming Tuesday, June 27, to discuss what a spirituality group might look like for us.  This effort is in line with our mission study/”Appreciative Inquiry” work in which we named “spiritual growth” as our key emphasis for the years ahead.  This isn’t about ticking off the next item on the “to do” list, however.  This is about trying to respond to a yearning many of us feel.

It might result in an ongoing group or it might not.  It could meet weekly or twice a week or monthly.  We might find ourselves at the church or at a restaurant or at someone’s home or at a place where some good ice cream or coffee could accompany good conversation.  It might end up in a book study or following a spiritual theme or simply end up as deep and confidential conversation.

To whom is this addressed?  Who are invited?

     Beggars.

Martin Luther, a leader of the Reformation, once described Christians thus:  “We are all mere beggars showing other beggars where to find bread.”

If you have wondered whether there is “something more,” if you could use some good companions on your journey into something deeper, please consider joining us this coming Tuesday.  No long-term obligation required.

See you in worship and in service,

              Pastor Mike

I just want to THANK Pastor Mike and the church members for their visits to the hospital.  Thanks to the ladies for the lunch they delivered to our home.  Also, thanks for all the cards and prayers.

                                         God bless you, Bill Shaw
